Traditionally the most used in the UK for all serious forms of towing and generally the most cost effective option. A 50mm towball is bolted to a two or four hole plate. If you have reverse sensors they can pick up the towball and go off every time you go into reverse.
Mainly used outside the UK. This type of tow bar is becoming more popular in the U.K. due to the appearance of the bar looking neater and with the bar being narrower it is less likely to trigger your parking sensors.
Compatible with AL-KO stabilisers.
Less likely to trigger reversing sensors.
Slightly more expensive than the flange towbar.
Cannot be fitted with a bumper shield.
Towball colours may vary.
The most popular towbar as the detachable system makes them hidden behind the bumper once the detachable neck is removed. Towbars incorporate a fold away electrical plate enabling the towbar electrics to fold behind the bumper when not in use. Key features of the vertical detachable system are;
Cycle carriers are available for this type of bar but you cannot tow at the same time.
In most instances the vertical fit system is completely invisible once the neck is removed and therefore preserves the aesthetic appearance of the vehicle.
When a vertically loading detachable neck is not available the horizontal system will be used. This allows all the benefits of the vertical detachable system above apart from the housing and socket plate being visible when the neck is removed.
Exclusive to Witter and only recently introduced this version offers all the versatility of a fixed flange bar whilst leaving very little of the towbar visible when detached.
Tow and carry cycles at the same time
The towball is removed when not in use preserving 'shins'
AL-KO towballs can be fitted
Won't trigger reversing sensors when not towing
A choice of towing couplings and accessories can be fitted
If you have a ALKO stabaliser on your caravan (Red hitch) you will need this type of towball. The AL-KO stabiliser hitch is bigger than a standard hitch. A special extended neck towball must always be used with AL-KO stabiliser hitches, unless a swan-neck towball is used.
The alko towball has a extended neck to stop the hitch fouling.
The towball needs to be free of any paint or grease (we clean the ball for £5)
An alko Towball is £8 extra.
Combined Ball & Pin Hitch
Commonly fitted to commercial vehicles to allow hitch or towing eye trailers to be towed. Suitable for towing trailers of up to 3.5T
